Getting Back on Track: 6 Tips for Real Estate Agents

motivation and mindset Jan 12, 2024
At the beginning of a new year, most people make “resolutions”… but for those who are serious about leveling up in the next 12 months ahead, a resolution isn’t enough. There’s got to be action…

Step 1: Don't Be too Hard on Yourself

It's easy to be hard on yourself when you hit a roadblock, but it's important to remember that setbacks are just a normal part of the process. Instead of giving up, remind yourself that failure is a necessary part of growth and success.

When you experience a setback, take a step back and practice self-compassion. Recognize that it's okay to make mistakes and that you're not alone in this. Then, use that experience as an opportunity to learn and grow.

It's important to remember not to let setbacks harm your self-esteem. Once you've practiced self-compassion, it's time to reassess your plan and make necessary adjustments.

Step 2: Evaluate Your Strategy

When it comes to getting back on track, it's crucial to take a step back and evaluate your plan. Let's say you've committed to a specific prospecting strategy, such as reaching out to a certain number of people from your database, making new connections, and following up with leads. It may have been going well for the first few weeks, but then you noticed that you've fallen behind on your goal.

Instead of pushing yourself to get back into it without understanding the root cause, take a moment to reflect on what led you to deviate from your plan. Was it a lack of time or energy? Was it a mindset issue? By identifying the problem, you can make adjustments to your plan that will better align with your current circumstances.

It's important to remember that it's okay to make changes to your plan, whether it's reducing the number of contacts you make or finding a different approach. And don't forget that sometimes, habits are interconnected, and addressing one area of your life can impact another.

In short, take a step back and evaluate your plan, then make the necessary adjustments to get back on track.

Step 3: Write Down Your Commitments and Take Action

One of the most effective ways to get back on track is to recommit to your goals in writing. Writing down your commitments serves as a reminder of what you truly want and serves as a contract to yourself. It also serves as a signal to the universe and to others that you are serious about achieving your goals.

It doesn't matter if you have slipped up or not, the act of writing down your commitments is powerful. It shows that you are taking ownership of your goals and are taking steps to make them a reality.

Whether it's a habit or a larger goal, take the time to write it down. Share it with your coach, accountability partners, or a mastermind group. The act of writing it down and sharing it with others can serve as an extra boost of motivation and accountability to stay on track.

Step 4: Keep Your Purpose in Mind

Finding your reason WHY, your PURPOSE is essential if you want to achieve success. If you don’t have a strong REASON behind your actions, your actions are less likely to create quality results. If you do have a strong “WHY” you have all the FUEL you need to drive you forward – to success. What is your WHY?

Step 5: Keep Track of Your Progress

One of the most important steps to getting back on track is to keep track of your progress. Keeping a journal or a log of your progress can help you reflect on your behavior and identify areas where you can improve. By regularly measuring your progress, you can make adjustments and course corrections as needed.

Just like how you would track the performance of an employee, you should also treat yourself as your most important employee and track your progress in a visible way. This will remind you of your goals and give you a clear understanding of where you currently stand.

Step 6: Get Some Accountability

One of the most effective ways to get back on track and stay there is to have accountability. One way to achieve this is by finding an accountability partner, forming a Mastermind group, or engage a coach. In 1-on-1 coaching, I help you in a private setting to uncover and clear the blockages to your success. It’s time to get all the systems, all the processes you will ever need to dominate your marketplace and build rapid momentum for the next 12 months ahead.

This is where the best get better.
